Germany defeat Serbia 3-2 in Fed Cup World Group Play Offs

Germany's Sabine Lisicki and Anna-Lena Groenefeld took on Serbia's Vesna Dolonc and Aleksandra Krunic in the fifth and decisive rubber in a crowded Porsche-Arena. 

Earlier in the day, Mona Barthel defeated Bojana Jovanovski in three tight sets to keep the tie alive after Ana Ivanovic upset Angelique Kerber 75 75 to put the Serbia 2-1 ahead against Germany in their Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie. 

In a match-up worthy of a Fed Cup Final, world No. 17 Ivanovic overcame a late fightback from the world No. 6 to secure her second singles win of the weekend.

Ana wins but Serbia level at 1-1.

Playing her first clay court match of 2013, Ana defeated world No.28 Mona Barthel 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-2 in the opening rubber of the Germany versus Serbia Fed Cup World Group I Play-Off tie.

Serbian No.2 Bojana Jovanovski then lost 7-5, 6-2 to world No.6 Angelique Kerber, as day one ended all square.

On Sunday Ana takes on Kerber, while Jovanovski faces Barthel, before Vesna Dolonc and Aleksandra Krunic face Anna-Lena Groenfeld and Sabine Lisicki in the potentially tie-deciding doubles rubber.

The best Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic said she was optimistic before the duel with ifa the barrage round of the World Group Fed Cup , although he is aware that the opponent has players from the top of the WTA list.

Ana confirms Fed Cup participation

Ana has confirmed her availability for Serbia's Fed Cup tie against Germany in Stuttgart next month. Serbia and Germany They will face in the World group Play Offs during the weekend 20-21 of April.

Ana said: "Germany has one of the strongest teams of any nation so it's going to be very tough for us. But I'm looking forward to the challenge, and hopefully helping us stay in the top group of the competition."

Ana withdraws from Fed Cup.

Ana Ivanovic has withdrawn from the Fed Cup tie against Slovakia this weekend due a shoulder injury.

Ana posted on her facebook: "I'm sorry to announce that I'm withdrawing from this weekend's Fed Cup tie. I hurt my shoulder in Melbourne and it's not yet fully recovered. I really hoped my physiotherapy was going to solve the problem sooner. It's really a shame, because I don't get many opportunities to play in Serbia. "

 "I'll continue my recovery and try to get fit as quickly as possible."

Ana is doubtful to play Fed Cup this weekend against Slovakia, Finally Jelena Jankovic decided to withdraws from the fed cup due a injury

"Of our team members today only trained Aleksandra Krunic and debutant Vesna Dolonc. Jelena Jankovic, after consultation with the doctor last night decided not to play in Nis, and Ana Ivanovic who was also injured decisions will be made until Thursday," said coach Dejan Vranes.
